HOT GINGER LEMONADE

Here’s an easy-to-make beverage that helps bring relief from stuffy noses caused by cold or flu.
Cut three 1/4-inch thick slices of fresh ginger root. Boil in 2 cups of water for 15 minutes. Add the juice of two lemons, 1 tablespoon of local honey or Xylitol to taste, and sprinkle with cayenne pepper.
Take a break. Sit in a comfortable chair or propped up in bed. Listen to relaxing music. Sip slowly and breath the steam.
Plain ginger tea also works well.
Miso is a naturally fermented soy product that is filled with nutritious minerals and probiotics. Miso soup is often served in Japanese restaurants at the start of a meal can be a beneficial hot beverage when one is battling the cold or flu.
Miso soup is easy to prepare at home. Fresh miso paste can be found at most natural and Asian food stores. It has a long shelf-life when stored in the refrigerator. There are several flavors available. My favorite is Brown Rice Miso. Look for a brand that is naturally fermented with no added colors, sugars or preservatives.
Stir a tablespoon of miso into a cup hot water. Add more or less to taste. Take care not heat the miso directly. Cooked miso looses the benefit of the probiotics.
If you like you can add thinly sliced vegetables such as carrots, green onions and, bell peppers, etc.
Sip and enjoy.
