Relaxing Through the Holidays

The Holidays offer a time of excitement, wonder, joy, and a time to rejoice and share good times with family and friends. The warm feelings Holidays bring can often be forgotten with the hurry and worry that also comes with the season. Added stress can often lead to frazzled nerves and short tempers. Homeopathy offers natural remedies that can help offset stress and restore the pleasure of the season. Here a few home care tips some are simple natural reminders- that can be utilized by any member of the family, young and old.

TAKE A BREATHER
Take time out and breathe. Breathing exercises help balance the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems that control many of the processes in your body. If you stay calm, your children and the rest of the family will follow your example. Here is one to try. Once you have mastered it, you can teach your children … For a minute or so, just be aware of your breathing. Notice the feel of the air as it passes into and through you, or notice your ribcage expanding, or any other aspect of breathing that occurs to you. Just pay attention to it without trying to modify it. Try to develop a habit of doing this whenever you are waiting for something.

FLOWER ESSENCE TO THE RESCUE
When you are feeling overly anxious, perhaps about the prospect of far-away relatives visiting your home, a little Rescue Remedy can go a long way. Rescue Remedy is a flower essence product that can be used by the entire family. Put a few drops in a glass of water. After a few sips you might be on your way to feeling more relaxed.

If you are feeling exhausted and must lie down with expectation and dread of an upcoming event, try the homeopathic remedy Gelsemium. Gelsemium was used successfully in WWI to address soldiers’ anticipatory anxiety.

TUMMY SOOTHERS
Over indulgence is a favorite pastime during the holidays. If you have found you have eaten too much rich food or drink and you are irritable with constipation and nausea the homeopathic remedy Nux vomica might help.

If food poisoning is suspected and vomiting and diarrhea are accompanied by a burning tummy with a thirst for small sips of cold water, try the homeopathic remedy Arsenicum album.

OUCH!
Calendula ointment or lotion applied topically can go a long way towards soothing minor cuts or burns. If a burn is more serious the homeopathic remedy Cantharis given orally can help. Reach for the homeopathic remedy Arnica for bumps and bruises.

For homeopathic remedies use any potency from 6C to 30C. One dose should be enough. One dose is one pellet under the tongue. A remedy can be repeated in 2 hours. Repeat only if needed. If there is relief, STOP, the remedy has done its job. Homeopathic remedies may be found at your local health food store. Contact Margo or Myra for more information.
