Valentine’s Day is when thoughts turn to matters of the heart. It is said that the spiritual heart is the organ that is responsible for generating emotions of love. The physical heart is considered the most important part of the human organism.
WHAT ABOUT THE KIDNEYS
The kidneys are another important organ that cleans and balances the chemistry of the blood, and remove excess water and toxins from the body. Quality of life depends on the health of the kidneys. Kidney function is crucial for thought, memory, and concentration. They are necessary for survival.
KIDNEY LORE
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine the Zhi spirit lives in the kidneys. Zhi connects to the collective unconscious, the part of the psyche that taps into the infinite. Zhi is thought to presides over the most inaccessible parts of the psyche, the instinctual responses of the sex organs, the biochemical intelligence of the endocrine system, and the knowing of our bones.
According to ancient Hebrew philosophy the kidneys are the seat of the deepest emotions and affections of man, which God alone can fully know.
Webster’s Dictionary states the word Kidney was derived from Latin “renes” through Old French “reins”, and has given place in modern English to the word “kidneys” and defines the kidneys as the seat of the feelings of passions.
CELEBRATE THE KIDNEYS
The National Kidney Foundation has declared March 8 as World Kidney Day and is calling on all Americans to protect their kidneys and prevent damage by educating themselves about chronic kidney disease and the proactive ways they can reduce their risk of kidney failure.
More than 26 million Americans have chronic kidney disease, and millions more are at risk but most don’t know it. Knowing the risk factors and controlling the major ones, such as diabetes and high blood pressure may prevent kidney failure. Regular physical activity and an improved diet can make a big difference in reducing risk and preventing complications.
