Managing Binge Eating During the Holidays

Trying to stick to a diet is often difficult for most of us. Trying to stick to a diet during the Holidays is almost impossible. It is best to have a plan ahead of time. Here’s an introduction to managing binge eating during the holidays:

1. Recognize Triggers

Holidays often bring emotional stressors such as family dynamics, financial concerns, and feelings of loneliness or anxiety. Recognize the situations, emotions, or environments that may drive you to overeat. Being aware of these triggers can help you prepare coping strategies in advance.

2. Practice Mindful Eating

Mindful eating encourages you to slow down and pay attention to your hunger cues, tastes, and fullness levels. Before meals, take a moment to assess your hunger, savor each bite, and check in with your body periodically to prevent overeating.

It’s common to feel pressure to eat everything at gatherings or indulge in all the holiday treats. Set realistic goals and expectations for yourself.
