Acute Illnesses: Homeopathy Offers Relief

Working with a professional homeopath to strengthen the immune response can correct one’s susceptibility to acute illnesses. However, there are times when it is appropriate to treat acute illnesses as stand-alone conditions.

What is an acute illness? An acute illness has a definite beginning. The person usually knows when he or she started feeling ill. The illness progresses and it resolves. Knowing the symptom picture assists a homeopath in determining the best remedy to help a person overcome acute illness.

Young children are not able to articulate their symptoms, and can only react with tears, aggression, or the constant need to be held. Parents and caregivers must learn to interpret their behavior. Recently, a mother called me because her child had just been diagnosed with tonsillitis. Recognizing the symptoms the child presented, I was quickly able to determine the correct remedy.

This particular child did not have a sore throat, but complained of a stomach ache. Her tonsils were inflamed and had white pustules, which looked like pimples, on them. She had bad breath, her eyes were glassy and her face was red. Upon further inquiry, the mother told me that a high fever had come on suddenly.

Many of the symptoms pointed to the remedy Belladonna. However, rapid onset of a fever and a painless, inflamed throat with bad breath could also indicate the remedy Baptisia tinctoria.

I asked the mother to pick up both remedies from the local health food store and start with Belladonna. After a few doses and a good night’s rest, the child was on her way to recovery.

Fortunately Belladonna was the correct remedy, as the health food store didn’t have Baptisia. There are over 4000 homeopathic remedies, one can’t rely on a local retail store to have everything one might need. Having a good first aid kit at home is essential when working with a homeopath. I offer several kits at a discount to my clients. I can build custom kits for special situations, like traveling to certain areas where there are known risks, such as malarial mosquitoes. I can also design kits for people allergic to certain insects or plants.1
