Hyland’s Homeopathic Teething Tablets

Hyland's Teething Tablets

On September 30, 2016, The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned consumers against the use of homeopathic teething tablets and gels because they may pose a risk.

Hyland’s remains confident that Hyland’s Baby Teething Tablets remain safe. Of course, parents who may have concerns should consult with their physicians before using any medicines, read labels carefully and follow all instructions. Hyland’s responded with a video to explain how homeopathic remedies are made.

Homeopathic Belladonna 12X is used as an example (which happens to be one of the homeopathic remedies in Hyland’s Teething Tablets). Belladonna 12X is made by a scientifically documented and standardized manufacturing process manufactured by reputable companies that are overseen by the Homeopathic Pharmacopœia of the United States and regulated and inspected by the FDA.  Homeopathic Belladonna 12X is a dilution of 1 part Belladonna to one trillion parts of water (12X = 1/1,000,000,000,000).  The amount of Belladonna used in Hyland’s Baby Teething Tablets is minuscule. There are two trillionths of a milligram in a tablet. A child would have to eat multiple bottles at once to experience the first side effect of belladonna, which is typically a dry mouth.

In 2010 Hyland’s reformulated the product to meet FDA standards. As of October 12, 2016, Hyland’s has not been made aware of any data that supports the claims in these reports. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in the UK says that homeopathic teething products licensed in the UK are safe. For more information about Hyland’s Teething Tablets.

“Hyland’s has committed itself to making safe and natural homeopathic medicines since eight pharmacists conceived the company, originally as the Standard Homeopathic Co., since 1903,” Grocery Headquarters July 2015.

National Center for Homeopathy has issued an action alert, “Help Us Correct Misconceptions about Homeopathic Teething Tablets.”

If you have been using Hyland’s Teething Tablets, you can continue to use them with confidence. Hyland’s branded homeopathic medicines are made in facilities that follow current Good Manufacturing Practices and are inspected by the FDA in the same way as other over the counter (OTC) drugs are.
