Homeopathic remedies are pharmaceutical grade substances made in pharmacies that are regulated by the FDA. Remedies are dispensed by licensed pharmacists. There are over 4,000 homeopathic remedies in many strengths or potencies.

Homeopathic remedies have had legal status in the United States since 1897 and are made in accordance with the law under the guidelines of the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States (HPUS). One will often see HPUS printed on the label of a homeopathic remedy.

There are certain remedies that are allowed to be sold over-the-counter in certain potencies. These remedies can be found in supermarkets, health food stores, vitamin stores, and pharmacies. Others are only available from a qualified health care professional.

Remedies are made from a wide variety of substances, plant, mineral, and animal. About 70% of the more than 3,000 remedies are from plant sources. Some substances in their crude form are poisonous. It is the potentization processes that renders them safe and non-toxic. There is no animal testing and no killing of animals. Homeopathic remedies are earth-friendly and are safe for infants, seniors, and animals. Homeopathic remedies do not cause side effects. Homeopathy is truly an environmentally friendly Green medicine.

The names of homeopathic remedies may sound strange, such as Nux-vomica, Neodymium metallicum, or Crotalus horridus, Many wonder why the names of the homeopathic remedies sound so strange. The Latin names of the remedies are used in identifying the remedies.

Latin is the scientific standard used around the world. Since homeopathy is virtually used in all countries. It makes sense that the classification and naming of the remedies is a universal standard. If you are ever in doubt about the source of a homeopathic remedy, it is best to ask your homeopath.
