Myra is Interviewed by Dr. Emmy A. Horstkamp, Metabolic Balance USA

This week, I was honored to be interviewed by Dr. Emmy A. Horstkamp, blogger for metabolic balance.® The interview posted today:

E.: How did you get started as a coach?

M.: I learned about the program through Brigitte Essl, an Austrian doctor working in Marin who is a metabolic balance® coach. I referred some of my clients to Dr. Essl and my referrals healed very quickly which peaked my interest. I talked with Dr. Essl about metabolic balance and decided to visit one of her group sessions.

At the session, I was intrigued that everyone seemed so happy with the food on their plans. Dr. Essl said that it was not unique to just that group, everyone in her groups seemed pretty happy with their food plans.

Seeing how quickly the plan worked and how happy Dr. Essl’s clients were, I decided to become a coach and add metabolic balance to my practice.

E.: Biggest challenge?

M.: Waiting five hours between meals. I was told at an early age that I was hypoglycemic and needed to eat many small meals. I was miserable for the first few days of the plan but after that it was OK.

E.: Biggest reward?

M.: How good I feel and my appreciation for food. When I lived in Washington, I grew all my own vegetables but I didn’t feel as well everyday as I do now that I am on the metabolic balance® plan.

E.: Favorite recipe?

M.: I’m lucky because I have a lot of dairy on my plan – cheese, milk, yogurt. My favorite recipe is a melted Gouda cheese sandwich with Avocado.

E.: Biggest challenge for clients?

M.: I think the biggest challenge for my clients is motivation. My clients, who are focusing on weight loss, are looking to lose 20 to 40 pounds and find it challenging to get through phase 3.

When I was having a similar challenge, My coach told me to keep going even though my weight was not dropping. Eventually my weight went down below my actual goal so I can really coach my clients from my own personal experience.

USEFUL TIPS FROM MYRA

  1. Explore all the foods on your list and have everything at least once.
  2. Drink all your water. The water on the list is a minimum.
  3. Remember that the food is chosen for them based on an in depth intake. The program is unique to them – Something special for them.
  4. If you are struggling with what meal to have the apple with, Myra suggests using it with your seed mix meal. It works!
  5. Experiment when eating your crackers. Try having one at breakfast. One at lunch, more at dinner. If you eat your cracker or your apple or a bite of protein at the right time you won’t get hungry. It Depends on the person, you need to experiment how to eat your meals to avoid hunger.
