Finding Your Hygeia of Good Health

Are you healthy? What are you willing to accept as the definition of a healthy person? The answer to this question varies form person to person. To some, a healthy person is a robust athlete. To another, it is a person taking only a few medications, say to control high blood pressure, for hormonal balance, medications to aid with sleep, or relieve occasional back pain. Or perhaps good health means having only had one or two operations in their lifetime.

As a Homeopath, I look for 6 basic signs to assess the health of an individual. These signs are known as the Hygeia Of Good Health.

1. ADAPTABILITY
Is one able to easily change, adjust, adapt to their situation?

2. ENERGY
Does a person have adequate for their needs? Neither too much energy or too little.
3. MENTAL CLARITY
Is a person in charge of their brain or do their thoughts rule?
4. PHYSICAL EASE
Is there freedom from pain? What are the limitations of a person’s use of their body?
5. EMOTIONAL STABILITY
What access to emotions does the person have? Is it appropriate; not too great or too small?
6. SLEEP
Does a person experience sleep that is restful and refreshing?

How is your health?

Greek Goddess of Health

Hygeia, pronounced hi-je’-a, is the name of the Greek Goddess for health personified. It is derived from the root word hugies or hygies , meaning healthy, which is also the root word for hygiene. In Greek Mythology there are at least twelve gods or goddesses for healing alone. Asclepiu is the Greek God of Medicine.
